Simon Prosser, Publishing Director of Hamish Hamilton and Penguin said: “For the past few months, more writers have recommended this novel to me than any other — and now I can see why: it’s one of the freshest, most distinctive and high-octane debuts I’ve come across in a long while.”

The first UK edition will be published as a paperback on October 6 2011; Naqvi will appear at a festival event on October 23 and also at a special event announcing the shortlist for the second DSC Prize the following day.

The novel traces the lives of three young Pakistanis, coming of age in New York City at the turn of the millennium and consequences of a road-trip taken in the aftermath of the 9/11 attacks.

Prosser added: “I’m delighted that we can make the book available in the UK at last, where I am sure it will find many excited new readers.”

  • Finally! I tried to get a copy of Homeboy at the Jaipur Literature Festival but it sold out in a matter of seconds. Before he was announced winner of the DSC Prize, Naqvi delivered a reading that was so dramatic and captivating I think people ran to the store before he’d finished!
