Karachi Literature Festival 2012 set for this weekend

This weekend, the third annual Karachi Literature Festival will take place at the Carlton Hotel in Karachi, Pakistan.
Prominent writers including Hanif Kureishi, Vikram Seth, Anatol Lieven and William Dalrymple will be in attendance.
The programme is jam packed with events and draws together a number of local writers from Pakistan, as well as many from South Asia and even further afield, in a series of talks, workshops and performances.
From academics such as Ayesha Jalal and Ahmed Rashid, to Urdu poets and authors including Intizar Husain, Zehra Nigah, Iftikhar Arif, and Fahmida Riaz, the organisers seem to have aimed to cover every facet of writing and literature. Even Dickens’ 200th anniversary will be marked by a performance conducted by London’s Arcola and Punchdrunk Theatre following a series of workshops in Karachi.
For those unable to attend, the festival will be telecast live on the internet.
Organisers of the Festival, British Council and Oxford University Press, said of the 2011 Festival: “The Festival pulled in large crowds made up of people of all ages, proving once again that the literary, intellectual and cultural spirit of the country is still very much alive.”
Given the success of the previous two festivals and the attraction of the likes of Hanif Kureishi, William Dalrymple, Mohammad Hanif, Mohsin Hamid, HM Naqvi, and Mirza Waheed, that the 2012 Festival will do nothing short of thrive.
