William Alden is Clerk (Chief Executive) of the Worshipful Company of Stationers and Newspaper Makers, the City of London Livery Company for the Communications and Content industries.

William comes from the industry, having run the Alden Press in Oxford for 25 years. Over that period he converted a family academic printing business into a multi-national company with operations in Southern India, Malaysia and the UK. He started with a joint-venture in Chennai in 1998, going wholly-owned in 2000, creating Alden Prepress Services (APPS) employing 600 staff in Chennai and 150 staff in Trichy. He sold the business in 2008. APPS specialised in scientific typesetting, text and data processing and medical transcription.

A graduate of Merton College, Oxford, William Alden served in the 13/18 Royal Hussars before entering the printing industry. William is a Deputy Lieutenant of Oxfordshire and will serve as High Sheriff of the County in April next year.
