
Arunava Sinha
Arunava Sinha is a translator of classic and contemporary Bengali fiction. His latest published translations are When The Time Is Right (Buddhadeva Bose) and Harbart (Nabarun Bhattacharya). His recent work includes The Chieftain’s Daughter (Bankimchandra Chattopadhyay) and Three Women (Rabindranath Tagore) – both part of the Random House Bengali Classics Series, of which he is the Series Editor. The next title in this series is Fever (Samaresh Basu), which will be published later this year.
His earlier translations from 2010 and 2009 include What Really Happened and Other Stories (Banaphool), By The Tungabhadra (Saradindu Bandyopadhyay), Striker Stopper (Moti Nandy), The Middleman (Sankar) and My Kind of Girl (Buddhadeva Bose).
His translation of Sankar’s Chowringhee won the Vodafone-Crossword Translation Prize for 2007, and was shortlisted for the Independent Best Foreign Fiction prize in the UK for 2009.
Twelve of his translations from Bengali into English have been published so far. He was born and educated in Calcutta, and now lives in New Delhi with his wife and son.
