Nitasha Kaul

Dr. Nitasha Kaul is a perpetually homeless Kashmiri writer, poet, traveler, photographer, and academic who inhabits many lives in UK, Bhutan, India.

She has a joint PhD in Economics and Philosophy and is the author of Imagining Economics Otherwise: encounters with identity/difference (Routledge, 2007). She is also completing a book about the history and politics of Bhutan. Previously an economics professor at UWE in Bristol, she is currently a visiting fellow in Politics and International Relations at the University of Westminster in London, and has lately been an Associate Professor of Creative Writing in Bhutan.

Her debut novel Residue was shortlisted for the Man Asian Literary Prize in 2009. Aside from fiction and poetry, she comments in the media and has authored numerous articles in edited collections, journals, newspapers on the themes of identity, culture, economy, gender, social theory, technology, and democracy. She has read her poetry in public and traveled to over 50 countries across 4 continents taking pictures of quirky streetscapes.
