Robert Blyth

Dr Robert Blyth is Curator of Imperial & Maritime History at the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich. He studied history at the University of Aberdeen, gaining a PhD in 1998. He has taught African, British and imperial history at Queen’s University Belfast from 2006–2008 before rejoining the National Maritime Museum.

His research interests include the South Asian diaspora around the Indian Ocean and its political, economic and social consequences for the British Empire and he has written several aricles on British India’s connection with the western Indian Ocean in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

Robert is co-author of Monsoon Traders: The Maritime World of the East India Company, launched in August 2011. He is also editor of the Journal for Maritime Research.
