Workshop: Translating from Indian Languages
A workshop offering the chance to learn the processes of translating from Indian languages into Engish.
Despite the great interest by publishers in Indian writing, very little is translated into English. Of course, the role of translators in bridging this gap is vital; not only are they the people who produce the English texts but they are also guides to the wealth of literature that is available, and might work well in English.
Acclaimed translator Arunava Sinha joins us specially from India to lead a half-day workshop (2pm to 6pm) where he will take you through his multifaceted work. This is a great chance to learn the processes of translating from Indian languages into English. Knowledge of any Indian languages is not necessary.
The workshop is in partnership with the British Centre for Literary Translation.
Limited places available. Registering for the workshop also includes a ticket for the ‘Accessing Indian literature: the vital art of translation’ event in the main auditorium at 12pm (see here for details).
